Quality Assurance Practitioner – Children’s Residential Care
Salary: £41,000–£45,000 per annum
Location: West Sussex, with travel between children’s homes
Are you an experienced Registered Manager looking to move into quality assurance, or a children’s residential QA professional ready for a new opportunity?
Peters Dean Care is recruiting a Quality Assurance Practitioner on behalf of an established children’s residential service in West Sussex.
This is an opportunity to use your residential expertise to improve care across multiple homes. Working alongside Registered Managers, you will review practice, identify improvements and support teams to deliver consistently high standards and positive outcomes for children.
The role offers some flexibility in managing your diary, with opportunities to complete administrative work from home where appropriate. Regular visits to homes across West Sussex are an essential part of the position.
The role
You will provide quality assurance and auditing oversight across the service, helping managers and teams understand what is working well and where improvements are needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Auditing children’s records and home records, including medication, health and safety, and fire safety.
- Producing clear, comprehensive audit reports with practical actions for improvement.
- Providing constructive feedback to Registered Managers and staff, explaining findings and the steps needed to address them.
- Reviewing and updating practice guidance in response to operational, legislative and regulatory changes.
- Delivering workshops on topics such as case recording, use of language and key working responsibilities.
- Supporting homes to prepare for regulatory visits and inspections.
- Identifying gaps in records and asking thoughtful questions to build a fuller understanding of practice.
About you
You will bring a strong understanding of children’s residential care and the confidence to assess practice, challenge constructively and support improvement.
To be considered, you will need:
- Experience working in a children’s residential setting within the last five years.
- A relevant residential or equivalent qualification at Level 4 Practitioner or Level 5 Manager level.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and relevant legislation.
- Strong auditing and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to turn findings into clear feedback and achievable actions.
- Confident communication skills, including the ability to deliver workshops and guidance to teams.
- Good IT skills and familiarity with electronic care recording systems.
- The ability to organise your workload independently and travel between homes across West Sussex.
This role could particularly suit a Registered Manager seeking a move away from day-to-day home management, or someone with relevant quality assurance experience in children’s residential services.
Although this is not a direct care position, residential experience is essential. You will need the depth of knowledge to recognise what good and outstanding practice looks like and help teams achieve it.
What the role offers
- A salary of £41,000–£45,000 per annum.
- The opportunity to influence care quality across several children’s homes.
- Close working relationships with Registered Managers and the wider residential service.
- Some flexibility over diary management and home-based administrative work, where appropriate.
- A role focused on improving practice and outcomes for children.
