We are excited to recruit a Deputy Manager for our EBD Children’s Home in Taunton supporting two young people on a 2:1 basis. This home offers intensive, therapeutic placements lasting 3–6 months, providing structure, care and stability to young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

The Role
As Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Home Manager to lead, support and supervise a team of Residential and Senior Residential Support Workers. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, child-centred care and will be confident stepping into the Manager’s role in their absence.
You will lead by example, set clear boundaries, model professionalism, and promote a consistent therapeutic approach across the home.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a lead role in ensuring the care, safety and welfare of each child
- Support and supervise residential staff, providing guidance, mentoring and training
- Coordinate and attend meetings with schools, social workers and local authorities
- Write reports for LAC reviews, placement reviews and care plans
- Raise safeguarding or welfare concerns with the Registered Manager
- Manage and respond to challenging behaviours, including verbal aggression
- Administer and accurately record medication
- Create, review and implement risk assessments
- Deliver keywork sessions and positive behaviour support
- Build strong relationships with young people aged 7–17 and their families during supervised contact
- Liaise effectively with social workers, families and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
- Support positive physical intervention where required
- Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all young people at all times
Essential Criteria
- Diploma / NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People (or equivalent)
- Experience working within a children’s residential home environment
- Senior-level experience leading and developing staff
- Excellent understanding of safeguarding, therapeutic care and residential childcare regulations
- Ability to remain calm, confident and consistent in challenging situations
- Full UK Driving Licence
