An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced Deputy Manager to join a dedicated team in a Children's Home supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). This role is ideal for an existing Deputy looking for a fresh challenge, or a confident Senior Support Worker / Residential Childcare Worker ready to take the next step in their career.

Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will help lead and inspire a team of Residential and Senior Support Workers to deliver high-quality, child-centred care. You’ll act as a positive role model, bringing strong leadership, empathy, and professionalism to every shift.

The children and young people you’ll support present with complex emotional and behavioural needs. They require structure, patience, and consistent guidance to help them build resilience, independence, and a positive future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take a lead role in promoting the safety, welfare, and development of each child in your care

  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and hands-on support to the staff team

  • Assist in developing and maintaining a nurturing, structured environment

  • Attend and coordinate meetings with external professionals including schools, social workers, and the local authority

  • Contribute to care planning, LAC reviews, placement reports, and daily documentation

  • Confidently manage the home in the Registered Manager’s absence

  • Address and manage challenging behaviour calmly and appropriately

  • Support with medication administration and accurate record keeping

  • Ensure robust safeguarding and risk management practices are consistently followed

  • Carry out keywork sessions and help facilitate supervised family contact

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic support

  • Use therapeutic techniques and positive behaviour strategies to promote progress

Deputy Manager Criteria

  • Diploma/ NVQ Level 3 in children and young people (or equivalent qualification) or above.

  • Senior experience in leading and developing others.

  • Excellent knowledge of the requirements of the role and the ability to lead others.
