Job Purpose

To lead and manage 2 supported living service for 16–18-year-old care leavers, delivering safe, high-quality accommodation and support in line with the Company’s ethos and Statement of Purpose.

The role ensures positive outcomes for young people and full compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal standards.

 

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years working with children and young people.

  • At least 2 years in a Manager or Deputy Manager role.

  • Experience in residential or supported accommodation settings.

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a care environment.

  • Experience supporting care leavers and young people with complex needs.

  • Experience with statutory or local authority inspections.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding.

  • Knowledge of legislation and best practice for looked-after children and care leavers.

  • Understanding of trauma, child development, and transitional needs of care leavers.

  • Awareness of support networks and services for 16–18-year-olds.

  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Safer Recruitment and residential care standards.

  • Knowledge of local resources and referral pathways.

Skills:

  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively.

  • Confident team leadership with a consistent, person-centred approach.

  • Strong relationship-building with young people and professionals.

  • Emotional resilience and ability to manage challenging situations.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and IT communication skills.

  • Competence in report writing, budgeting, and supervision.

  • Ability to conduct internal investigations and deliver training.

  • Professional representation of the Company.

 

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the supported living service for 16–18-year-old care leavers.

  • Ensure personalised support plans reflect the needs and goals of each young person.

  • Promote independence, life skills, and preparation for adulthood.

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment.

  • Ensure legal, regulatory, and internal policy compliance.

  • Monitor young people's progress and outcomes.

  • Participate in on-call support as needed.

 

People Management

  • Lead safer recruitment and induction processes.

  • Supervise and develop staff through regular appraisals and training.

  • Create and manage rotas, ensuring adequate staffing levels.

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture.

  • Ensure staff understand their safeguarding and safety responsibilities.

 

Resource Management

  • Manage the safety, upkeep, and resources of supported accommodation.

  • Work within allocated budgets and ensure cost-effective service delivery.

  • Maintain accurate records and uphold data protection standards.

 

Quality and Improvement

  • Conduct internal audits and respond to inspections.

  • Address complaints and implement quality improvements.

  • Promote a culture of ongoing learning and development.

 

External Relations

  • Build positive relationships with professionals, local authorities, and external stakeholders.

  • Represent the Company in multi-agency meetings and service evaluations.

  • Work collaboratively with other Company managers to ensure service consistency.
